This originally started as a landscape painting of Peggy’s Cove, but my instructor at the time decided to run a rag across the wet paint. I was devastated. (To be fair, he did warn us that he’d be interfering with our work that class.) But I love the painting that came out of such pain and chaos even more than the realistic sunset I set out to complete. I stumbled for a few minutes with my brush, wanting to just redo what he ruined. And then I raged a little and changed directions. Now it has so much more depth behind it and a great story to tell.
